The Faculty was built in the 18th century and served as a hospital and the site of the Faculty of Medicine until the mid-20th century, when it was refurbished into a university building. It is located in the heart of the Jewish Quarter (Judería), a touristic area which got its name from the Jewish communities that lived there under the Caliphate and the rule of Christian kings up to their expulsion during the reign of Isabella and Ferdinand. The Synagogue and the Mosque Cathedral are some of the famous sights that can be visited in the historic centre of Cordoba, which became a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1984.
