Access and Admision
Access and Admission
Admission to doctoral studies will be open to those who hold a degree obtained in accordance with foreign education systems, without the need for their homologation, upon verification by the university that the degree accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish Master's degree, and that it entitles the holder to access doctoral studies in the country issuing the degree. This admission will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested party, or its recognition for purposes other than access to doctoral studies (Art. 6.2.b of RD 99/2011).
Procedure
1º. Contact a professor at the University of Cordoba who forms part of a research line/team of one of the doctoral programmes regulated by RD 99/2011 of 28 January, governing official doctoral studies offered at this University, to supervise your thesis (serve as your director). You can view the doctoral programmes in the following link: Current offerings, 2011 RD Programmes
2º. Access the following computer application: SIGMA, and apply for admission. Attach the following documents:
- Copy of your Passport; or National Identity Document (EU countries).
- Copy of higher education certificate or diploma (Bachelor's, licenciatura degree, or engineering degree) you have completed, officially translated into Spanish or English, in the case of a language other than these.
- Copy of the Master's degree you have completed, or the equivalent foreign higher education degree; or the certification accrediting its issuance, officially translated into Spanish or English, in the case of a language other than these.
- In the case of foreign degree, prove that this degree entitles one, in the issuing country, to apply for access to doctoral studies. For this purpose, you can provide, for example, a certificate analogous to the "Official doctoral studies in the country of origin: access certification form"(1).
- Copy of an Academic Certificate complementing the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees presented by the applicant, in which it is stated:
- Official duration of the studies carried out in each of the academic years for the Master's Degree or equivalent.
- Research nature of the Master's degree.
- Courses taken.
- Contact hours of each of the subjects taken.
- Grades obtained in each of the subjects taken.
- "Doctoral thesis advisorship and supervisorship acceptance letter" (2), digitally signed by the thesis tutor/supervisor.
- If applicable, "Admisión al Doctorado a tiempo parcial" (3), and documents accrediting the reasons for requesting part-time.
- Curriculum Vitae.
(1), (2), (3) You must use the models that can be downloaded from the doctoral website: Impresos, normativa y certificaciones > Access and admission.
3º. If you wish to obtain a letter of acceptance from the IDEP, you must send an e-mail to doctorado.internacional@uco.es
Admission to a PhD programme is always subject to the decision of the Academic Committee of the PhD Programme (CAPD).
Conditional admission
The CAPD may conditionally admit a candidate with him/her only being able to register for consultation with his/her academic advisor in relation to his/her doctoral studies.
1. The reasons that may give rise to a conditional admission are:
- The completion of complementary training. When, in view of the candidate's aptitudes and qualifications, it is deemed appropriate for him or her to complete, prior to joining the Doctoral Programme, legally determined complementary training.
- The presentation of documentation accrediting administrative requirements. When the applicant meets the admission requirements, but has pending the formalisation of documentation or other administrative requirements (legalisation of foreign documents, translation of documents, etc.).
2. If the requirements set out in next paragraph are not met before the end of the academic year, admission shall be cancelled, for all purposes.
VERY IMPORTANT
Applicants must provide documentary proof of compliance with the academic requirements for access to doctoral studies at the time of submitting the application for admission through SIGMA. Documents issued abroad must be official, must be legalised through diplomatic channels or, where applicable, by the apostille of the Hague Convention (this requirement will not apply to documents issued by the authorities of the Member States of the European Union or signatories of the Agreement on the European Economic Area), and, where applicable, their official translation into Spanish.
For accreditation of your already legalised qualifications, there are two possibilities:
- If your qualifications have been legalised with the Hague Apostille and have a code (Bidi or QR), or online verification link, simply attach them to SIGMA.
- If your qualifications have been legalised and do not have a code (Bidi or QR) or online verification link, you must attach them in SIGMA and, in addition, submit the ‘Declaración Responsable’ with your original signature through the UCO Registry (in person or by post) if the signature is handwritten, or through the "Sede Electrónica" if you have a valid digital signature.
In the event that the documentation provided to SIGMA is incomplete, you must submit the complete documentation once you have been admitted, and before you can make your first enrolment.
