MicroHibro
Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment tool
MicroHibro is an online free access tool created by the HIBRO research Group as a result of the national projects AGL2008-03298 / ALI and RTA2013-00055-C02-02; and regional projects P08- CTS-03620 and P12- AGR-1906. MicroHibro is the only tool in Spanish integrating the application of predictive microbiology models and quantitative microbiological risk assessment in foods. Since its creation, MicroHibro is being used by different organizations, both at the consulting level, as well as at the academic and institutional level and by agri-food industries.
What does MicroHibro offer users?
Knowledge of the influence of environmental factors on microbial responses in foods
MicroHibro integrates predictive microbiology models allowing to know the effect of the modification of environmental factors on the growth, inactivation or survival of microorganisms in foods
Shelf-life estimation
MicroHibro allows the shelf-life estimation providing scientific support to the food industry and health administration
Development of Quantitative Microbiological Risk Assessment
MicroHibro offers the user the possibility of developing Quantitative Microbiological Risk Assessment in foods through an accessible and intuitive interface
Implementation of sampling plans and microbiological criteria
MicroHibro helps users design sampling plans and verify the implementation of microbiological criteria in foods, based on risk metrics
MicroHibro integrates the application of predictive microbiology models and the quantitative microbiological risk assessment in foods, providing a comprehensive solution for the improvement of quality management and food safety
The prediction module is formed by a set of growth and inactivation models of different microorganisms, in food matrices. In this way, MicroHibro provides estimations of the microbial behavior in foods being obtained in a simple and direct way.
The validation allows the user to know if models’ estimations are suitable for a specific scenario or a certain food. MicroHibro allows introducing microbiological observations for the validation of the predictive models implemented in the application.
The MicroHibro structure is flexible as it allows the possibility of incorporating new models or foods that adapt to the users’ needs.
The sampling plans and microbiological criteria module is currently being integrated into a new version of MicroHibro. This module has been the result of the development of a European FP7 project BASELINE, with the participation of the HIBRO research group. With the information provided by MicroHibro, the user can know the level of acceptability of a lot and establish sampling programs and microbiological criteria in foods.
