Oriens
HUM-940 seeks to foster knowledge of Near, Middle Eastern and
Mediterranean societies from the ancient period to the present. Through
its academic activities the two research teams seeks to promote
interdisciplinary research in the fields of language, literature,
translation and culture. Undergraduate and graduate courses,
conferences, colloquia, seminars and lectures will be organised to
enhance the dissemination of publications and media diffusion within the
academia, but also for the public in general.
In
order to fully comprehend complex modern societies, a multilingual,
multidisciplinar approach is applied to the investigations. Humanistic,
technical and multimedia texts alike are explored in the search for
linguistic features and factors governing communication in the main
European languages. The transfer of knowledge and the construction of
interlinguistic and intersemiotic relations are at the core of the
group’s research with the purpose of promoting understanding and
interculturality.
