Stay of the predoctoral researcher Jesús Blázquez at the University of Stuttgart (Germany)
Collaboration with Prof. Buchmeiser’s group at the Institute of Polymer Chemistry
Jesús M. Blázquez Moreno, Ph.D. student from FQM-175 group at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Córdoba, has successfully completed his predoctoral stay at the Institute of Chemical Polymers at the University of Stuttgart (Germany). Under the supervision of Professor Dr. Michael R. Buchmeiser and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Sadananda Muduli, Jesús gained valuable experience in synthesizing and characterizing various polymeric materials suitable for sodium-sulfur (Na-S) batteries, thus contributing to the development of current research projects in the area of advanced battery materials of the FQM-175 group. This experience has been key for his doctoral thesis, supervised by Drs. Álvaro Caballero and Almudena Benítez.
OLIVE2BATTERY Project (UCOLIDERA call) advances towards alpeorujo-based batteries
Transforming alpeorujo into functional carbons for batteries: OLIVE2BATTERY project
The first significant progress of the OLIVE2BATTERY project has been documented in an article published in Fuel (an Elsevier-published journal). This project, titled “Functional materials derived from alpeorujo for sodium-sulfur batteries: Innovating towards sustainable and efficient energy storage technology”, is funded by the University of Córdoba through sub-modality 2.4-UCOLIDERA into Plan Propio de Investigación “Enrique Aguilar Benítez de Lugo 2023”. The project is led by postdoctoral researcher Almudena Benítez de la Torre (Juan de la Cierva – Incorporación contract), a member of the FQM-175 group, and is set to be completed within one year.
The recently published open-access article, titled “Comprehensive study of valorisation of exhausted olive pomace through the preparation of highly porous activated carbons”, highlights relevant obtained in the preparation of functional carbons from alpeorujo. This work is derived from the active collaboration with the RNM-271 group, led by Professor Mª Ángeles Martín Santos, within the synergistic activities of the Chemical Institute for Energy and the Environment (IQUEMA).
