Healthcare is the fastest-growing sector of the U.S. economy, employing over 18 million workers. Women represent nearly 80% of the healthcare work force. Healthcare workers face a wide range of hazards on the job, including sharps injuries, harmful exposures to chemicals and hazardous drugs, back injuries, latex allergy, violence, and stress. Although it is possible to prevent or reduce healthcare worker exposure to these hazards, healthcare workers continue to experience injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Cases of nonfatal occupational injury and illness with healthcare workers are among the highest of any industry sector.
Professional disease by biological agent
Occupational diseases (EP) are regulated in our country by Royal Decree 1995/1978.
In case of suspicion or knowledge of EP can be structured in:
Medical performance, with diagnosis and treatment, epidemiological assessment, specialized medical attention and follow-up.
Preventive action: includes the study of contacts and their eventual prophylaxis (fundamental in the case of communicable diseases)
A legal action with recognition and declaration of the EP and the necessary actions related to the disability.
Finally, the detection of an EP promotes a new risk assessment, from which new preventive measures will be derived
