Jordi Izquierdo is Associate Professor of Crop Protection of the Department of Agri-Food Engineering and Biotechnology at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Polytechnical University of Catalonia, Spain). He has authored or co-authored different publications in refereed journals. He is member of the Spanish Weed Science Society (SEMh) and the European Weed Research Society (EWRS). His research focus is on crop-weed interactions and weed biology and ecology in Mediterranean agro-ecosystems. The current activity involves two main objectives: 1) develop weed emergence models based on temperature and soil moisture and how to made this tool easily available to farmers and, 2) the role of the weeds as a support of biodiversity in agroecosystems, focusing on the spatial distribution of the plant diversity within field according to the soil management system, and on the importance of these plant diversity in supporting populations of pollinators.
