The European project LIFE Innocereal EU is implementing Good Management Practices thanks to the development of a Network of Demonstration Farms and Pilot Farms in which field trials have been implemented with durum wheat, soft wheat and malting barley applying some of the Good Practices included in the Manual aimed at improving the environmental and economic sustainability of cereal production.
For this reason, the European project website has included a map detailing the characteristics of these farms, which are located in Andalusia, Aragon, Castile-La Macha and Castile-Leon.
El Lirón: The farm is located in the municipality of Lebrija, province of Seville. It falls within the Mediterranean climatic unit with a warm sub-humid maritime influence and marl and marl limestone soils. Rotations of wheat with sunflower and leguminous plants (chickpeas) are used. The study plot has an average slope of 1.8%.
Casas de los Marqueses: The farm is located in the municipality of La Roda, province of Albacete. The climate is considered to be local steppe. Rotations of wheat/barley with leguminous/barbarn are used. The study plot has an average slope of 2%. The soil has a sandy loam texture.
El Cabezuelo: The estate is located in the municipality of Ojos Negros, in the province of Teruel. The climate is generally cold semi-arid, although it is very close to the limits of the subtropical climate. Rotations of wheat/barley with legume/barley are used. The study plot has an average slope of 1.7-1.8%. The soil has a loamy texture.
La Espina: The farm is located in the municipality of Barruelo del Valle, province of Valladolid. The climate of the area is continentalised Mediterranean. Rotations of wheat with rapeseed and leguminous plants (vetch) are used. The average slope of the study plot is between 0.7 and 1.1%.
