Research areas
Artificial intelligence applied to software engineering
Software engineering includes activities that artificial intelligence can automate or optimise. Within this area, I worked on search-based software engineering (SBSE) during my PhD. Now I am also interested in the application of machine learning and data mining to different tasks related to software development.
Explainable artificial intelligence
Data mining and machine learning techniques allow extracting knowledge from vast amounts of data, with the aim of describing, classifying or making predictions. I am particularly interested in the study of methods that make AI and its results more transparent looking for AI techniques more accesible to humans.
Metaheuristic optimisation
Metaheuristics are efficient search algorithms, since they are able to find near optimal solutions in few time. They are usually inspired by natural processes, such as the evolution of the species. I apply these techniques to my other areas of interest, with special focus on multi-objective optimisation and interactive approaches.
