The Department of Comparative Anatomy and Pathological Anatomy has its origins in the Embryology and Anatomy Seminar and the Cytology, Histology and Pathological Anatomy Seminar at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Cordoba.
The Department of Comparative Anatomy and Pathological Anatomy is in charge of coordinating academic instruction in the field of Comparative Anatomy and Pathological Anatomy under the Veterinary Medicine degree programme in accordance with the teaching programme at the University of Cordoba. The department also provides support to instructors for the development of teaching and research activities and initiatives.
The department conducts its activity in three main areas: 1. Academic instruction in the Veterinary Medicine degree programme and Postgraduate programmes through a Master’s in Animal Medicine, Health and Breeding. 2. Research and R+D projects. 3. Specialisation courses and on-going training in Animal Pathological Anatomy within the framework of the ECVP Training Programme, the AFIP Programme and the Anatomopathological Diagnosis Service.
In order to achieve their academic objectives, the teaching faculty is currently developing several projects to improve teaching quality which are funded by the Office for Quality Development of Andalusian Universities. Thanks to this programme, numerous books, manuals, CDs and DVDs have been developed for instructional use. With the aim of developing research, the teaching and research faculty are currently participating in projects funded by the EU, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Regional Government of Andalusia and private institutions. Finally, the specialisation in Animal Pathological Anatomy is supported by the Anatomopathological Diagnosis Service in conjunction with the department and in other activities as a member of the United States Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Training Programme.
