COMET-LA will be presented at the Research meets Diplomacy: Europe as a Global Actor Conference, next June 5. The project has been chosen by teh Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commision to participate in the conference to foster exchanges between researchers from Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) FP7 projects and policy-makers on the theme of EU foreign policy. 

The Strategic Programme under Horizon 2020 foresees social scientific research alongside an embedding of social sciences and humanities in other Societal Challenges with international dimensions (e.g. environment). The conference will be organized around four thematically organised panels focusing on:

EU's capacities as a global actor
EU's neighbourhood policy in the Mediterranean area
EU's relations with the wider world - sustainable governance of natural resources in the framework of EU-LAC relations
EU's relations with the wider world - the EU's role in the Asia-Pacific region

To promote family farming means to stimulate economic development in the region and fight against hunger and poverty. For that reason, the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, FAO RLC, publishes the Family Farming Newsletter for Latin America and the Caribbean,  a quarterly publication that seeks to disseminate information on family farms through interviews systematization of good practices and presentation of various information about the reality of family farming in the region. The last issue of the newsletter shows the COMET-LA project as an example of good practice.

Boletín de Agricultura Familiar de América Latina y el Caribe - Octubre - Diciembre 2013

The community of Comaltepec, supported by the Autonomous University of Mexico UNAM and the association “Estudios Rurales y Asesoría Campesina” ERA, both members of COMET-LA, has launched its website. The internet page has been conceived and designed by the community in order to systematize activities in of the COMET-LA project but also all the decisions taken within the community and disseminate information mainly among people living outside the community.

The website shall contribute to the development of COMET-LA learning arena encouraging the dissemination of good practices and lessons learned in the field of forest management and land use.

Civil and scientific organisations are looking for local solutions to environmental problems to which Latin America is facing. Good practises carried out with local communities are being studied in Colombia, México and Argentina.

On June 13, 2012, the project coordinator, Maria del Mar Delgado Serrano, presented the challenges of research on climate change and the project COMET-LA to secondary school students.

The Nobel Prize in Economic Policy and inspiring COMET-LA, Elinor Ostrom, died after fighting against cancer on June 12, 2012 at the age of 78. The COMET-LA members are deeply touched by his loss.

The day of her death, the last article of Professor Ostrom, "Green from the Grassroots",was published by Project Syndicate.

May 8 and 9, Maria Adelaida Farah, Maya and Diana Evelyn Garrido Pontificia Javeriana University, visited the city of Buenaventura, to meet their partners at the field level.
