Desde que se incorporó al Departamento de Filologías Inglesa y Alemana en el año 2000, Cristina M. Gámez-Fernández ha impartido clase, por un lado, de cultura, historia y literatura escrita en inglés y, por otro, de inglés con fines académicos y profesionales, tanto en estudios de grado como de posgrado. Desde 2006 hasta 2011, fue la responsable del proyecto de innovación docente dedicado a la implementación progresiva de experiencias bilingües en la UCO, antes de la creación del programa bilingüe oficial. Ha pasado períodos de investigación en la Universidad de Stanford, en Wheaton College (EE. UU.) y en el Trinity College de Dublín (Irlanda). Es una de las fundadoras de AEEII (Asociación Española para Estudios de la India), y también fue Secretaria-Tesorera en el periodo 2007-2009. En 2009, ganó el premio Leocadio Martín Mingorance por su trabajo sobre la poesía religiosa de Denise Levertov, otorgado por la Universidad de Córdoba. Fue la editora invitada del volumen "Contemporary English Writing in India" (2012) del Journal of Postcolonial Cultures and Societies así como del volumen "Muslim Identities in Literature and Film" (2015) del Journal of Contemporary Literature (Allahabad, India). También ha sido coeditora de India in the World (Cambridge Scholars Publishing 2011), Tabish Khair: Critical Perspectives (Cambridge Scholars Publishing 2014) y Shaping Indian Diaspora: Representations and Bollywood Consumption away from the Desi (Lexington Books 2015). Junto con la Universidad de Northampton (Reino Unido) y la Universidad Shri Ramswaroop Memorial (India), organizó la I International Conference on Precarity, Populism and Post-Truth Politics, donde se creó la red internacional de investigación Challenging Precarity: A Global Network (http://icp2019.aurouniversity.ac.in/About_research_network.aspx). Actualmente se encuentra preparando un volumen coeditado sobre poesía ecocrítica con Brill.

Actualmente se encuentra preparando dos volúmenes coeditados sobre vulnerabilidad con Routledge; también tiene dos proyectos editoriales en coedición con Peter Lang.
