Welcome to the web page of Ramón Román Alcalá. These brief words will serve to present the areas of research that I dedicate the main part of my work to.

Since I began my History studies in the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts in Cordoba , I already had decided to dedicate my studies to Philosophy. Thus, once I achieved my degree in History, my first paper for the culmination of my doctorate studies was a dissertation (guided by professor José Molero Cruz, sadly missing) about Lucrecio, the sole and original disciple of Epicurus de Samos. In 1980 I began my Philosophy degree at the University of Seville and I earned my doctorate at the University of Granada in 1992, with a thesis entitled: “Pirrón: The Culmination of the Greek Skeptic Tradition.” My director and mentor was Professor Tómas Calvo Martínez who still exercises his charitable influence from the Iberian Society of Greek Philosophy of which he is the president and I am the founding partner. Since that time, I have dedicated my concentration of studies almost entirely to Hellenistic Philosophy and specifically to Greek skepticism. As a result of this work, one can find on this page my book about ancient skepticism, another about Lucrecio and some articles about the skepticism of Enesidemo and the Arcesilao and Carnéades platonic academy. Presently, I intend to create a work group from the University of Cordoba that investigates the fundamental theme of the history of skepticism through philosophy. With the group, and with the effort of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities we intend to form a sensible but interesting bibliography about these themes in Cordoba , nearly completely about the themes related to Greek skepticism.

Moreover, for necessities of my teaching in Art and Humanities, I have opened a second area of research about the study of a rather plastic and chaotic theme like <<City>>. Thus, aspects about the art or the city and its relation to technology exhaust me of some days and nights of work. As a result of this research I have intervened in an international project since 1998, with twelve European universities entitled “The European City.” Universities like Paris (7 and 8), Cordoba , Liverpool, Lecce , Pompeu Fabra, Faro, Bremen , Berlin etc. have already welcomed a colloquium and seminar. Consequent to this continued study, I have been named Member of “Commité d'experts sur les Sciences de la Ville de la Universitè de Paris.” On this page you will find some studies about these themes and others about aesthetics and the theory of Art.
