Abstract
Since its introduction in 2009, the Master's Degree in Secondary School, Vocational and Language Teaching (hereinafter “Master’s Degree in Teaching”) at Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO, Seville, Spain) includes the optional module of Bilingual Teaching. This responded to the needs detected among active teachers involved in bilingual programmes (Morton, 2013; Pavón et al., 2019).
In this module, the future teachers of the Spanish education system are introduced to the theoretical and methodological foundations of bilingual teaching, and the relevant legislative aspects at regional and national levels are also reviewed (e.g. Junta de Andalucía, 2017). In a second phase, these proto- teachers put into practice what they have learnt and develop appropriate teaching units for the bilingual teaching of their specialised subjects, following Moore & Lorenzo (2015). In addition, the syllabus includes specific sessions on the evaluation of bilingual schools (Pavón, 2018), equity in bilingual education (author, 2021), and how to collaborate with language assistants in the classroom (Ministerio de Educación y FP, 2021).
The aim of this article is to share the methodology followed in the Bilingual Teaching module of the Master's Degree in Teaching at UPO with other university
