Presentation
The importance of the English language, its literature, and culture in today’s world is undeniable. English has become the language of science and technology, and the majority of scientific magazines and publications of international prestige are published in this language. It has also become the language of business and economy, international politics, culture, and the world of entertainment, amongst others.
Due to the impact this language has on several cultures, most universities in the world offer degrees in English studies and specialised MAs in one or more related fields. Additionally, most educational systems at all levels are making an effort to provide their courses not only in the national language, but also in a foreign language, which is usually English (especially since the creation of the European Higher Education Area).
For this reason —and given the interest of a bilingual education and the increase of educational programmes proposing this type of education to promote the development of English and enhance education—, there is a demand of specialised MAs to form professionals ready for this education model.

Admission
To enrol in an official MA, you must hold an official Spanish university degree, or one issued by a higher institution from another state member of the European Higher Education Area proving that you can enrol in a Master’s Degree.
Students with university degrees from educational systems different from the European Higher Education Area can also enrol without standardising their certificates, as long as the Universidad de Córdoba can corroborate that the level of education is equivalent to the official Spanish university certificates. Enrolment through this method does not imply the standardisation of any previous certificate students have, or its recognition for purposes other than taking the MA.
New student profile
This MA establishes three priority levels for admission, depending on the students’ academic profile:
- High priority: BA Degree in English Studies or in Translation and Interpreting.
- Medium priority: BA Degree in Primary Education or BA Degree in any area that shows experience of teaching at primary and/or secondary level.
- Low priority: BA Degree in any other area.
Admission requirements
You need to possess an official certificate of, at least, a B2 level of English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
We will only accept the certificates listed in Annex I of the Regulation in which the requirements and procedure for the Accreditation of Linguistic Competence to obtain a university degree at Universidad de Córdoba are established (approved in Consejo de Gobierno on November 26th, 2014).

Admission criteria
Admission criteria for the Master’s Degree are based on article 17 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 from October 29th, 2007 (BOE 29/10/08).
Students will be admitted once the degree priority has been considered by the Academic Council of the MA based on the following criteria:
- Academic record: The criteria of the Distrito Único Andaluz (DUA) will be followed based on previous objective merits according to the established priorities.
- Knowledge and level of English. We will only accept the certificates listed in Annex 1 of the Regulation in which the requirements and procedure for the Certification of Linguistic Competence to obtain a university degree at Universidad de Córdoba are established (approved in Consejo de Gobierno on November 26th, 2014).
- Curriculum Vitae (scholarships, specialisation courses, other merits)
Applications are assessed based on the average grade of the academic record (75% of the score), CV, and English level (25% of the score).

Academic opportunities
From an academic point of view, this MA offers a solid academic formation in English studies, whether in English literature or in cognitive linguistics. On the other hand, it also offers specific training in bilingual education at all levels (primary, secondary, and university education). In both cases —English studies and education—, the MA includes a research profile, thus providing the basic tools to start a career as a researcher in both areas.
Professional opportunities
This MA offers professional opportunities in several sectors where the use of the language is of utmost importance, for example, teaching and education, writing and editing, publishing and journalism, advertising and marketing, corporate communications, public relations, content creation and social media. Additionally, the bilingual education profile is also specifically targeted at teaching professionals in non-linguistic areas (history, geography, natural and social sciences, music, physical education, music, etc.) who aim to continue their teaching career in a foreign language.
